FRIED SHRIMP RECIPE

FRIED SHRIMP RECIPE: NUTRITION FACTS, HEALTH BENEFITS, AND COMPLETE SEAFOOD GUIDE

Fried shrimp is one of the most popular seafood dishes around the world. Loved for its golden crispy coating and juicy, tender interior, it is a dish that can be prepared for family dinners, parties, or even fine dining menus. Shrimp is naturally rich in protein, low in carbohydrates, and contains important nutrients such as selenium, vitamin B12, and omega-3 fatty acids. However, the way shrimp is prepared makes a big difference in its nutritional profile. Frying shrimp adds crunch and flavor, but it also increases calories and fat content depending on the oil and coating used.

For seafood lovers who want to enjoy fried shrimp at home, preparing it from scratch is a rewarding experience. With the right ingredients and cooking techniques, you can make shrimp that is both delicious and healthier than typical restaurant versions. Below are the detailed ingredients and instructions to help you create perfect fried shrimp every time.

INGREDIENTS FOR FRIED SHRIMP

  • 500 grams (1 pound) of large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (substitute with almond flour or whole wheat flour for a healthier version)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko crumbs for extra crunch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional for garnish)
  • Vegetable oil for frying (or use avocado oil for a lighter option)
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Dipping sauce such as tartar sauce, garlic aioli, or spicy mayo

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FRIED SHRIMP

  1. Begin by patting the shrimp dry with paper towels to ensure the coating sticks well during frying.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  3. Place the beaten eggs in a second bowl.
  4. Add breadcrumbs or panko crumbs to a third bowl.
  5. Dredge each shrimp in the flour mixture, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Press lightly so the coating adheres.
  6. Heat oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. The oil should reach around 350°F (175°C).
  7. Carefully place shrimp into the hot oil, frying in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook each side for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Remove the shrimp using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve immediately with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.
