Garlic Herb Sourdough Stuffed with Brie and Cranberry Sauce
Ingredients
For the Sourdough Bread:
- 1 round sourdough loaf (about 1 pound)
- 1 cup Brie cheese, cut into slices or cubes
- 1/2 cup cranberry sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried rosemary)
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Prepare the Sourdough:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Bread: Place the sourdough loaf on a cutting board. Using a serrated knife, cut the top off the loaf and reserve it. Then, cut diagonal lines into the bread (do not cut all the way through) to create a crosshatch pattern. Make sure to create cubes of about 1-2 inches wide, ensuring they’re connected at the bottom.
Make the Filling:
- Sauté Garlic and Herbs: In a small skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the rosemary and thyme, cooking for an additional minute. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Combine Filling Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the sautéed garlic and herb mixture with the cranberry sauce. Stir to mix well.
Stuff the Bread:
- Stuff the Loaf: Gently pull apart the squares in the bread and stuff each opening with a piece of Brie cheese and a spoonful of the cranberry herb mixture. Make sure to fill all the cuts for maximum flavor.
Bake:
- Cover and Bake: Place the stuffed bread on a baking sheet. Replace the top of the bread (if using) or keep it open-faced. Cover loosely with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning. Bake for 20 minutes.
- Finish Baking: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve:
- Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly before serving. Pull apart pieces of the stuffed sourdough with your fingers, enjoying the gooey Brie and sweet-tart cranberry sauce.
Tips:
- Feel free to add other ingredients like chopped nuts or extra herbs based on your preference.
- This dish can also be served with a side of additional cranberry sauce for dipping.
