Grandma’s Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk and gently stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
  5. Shape Biscuits: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it gently a few times. Pat it out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits.
  6. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. They can be close together for soft sides or spaced apart for crispy edges.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  8. Serve: Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with butter, jam, or honey!

Feel free to adjust the recipe to your taste, and enjoy baking!
