Grandma’s Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add Buttermilk: Pour in the buttermilk and gently stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
- Shape Biscuits: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it gently a few times. Pat it out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. They can be close together for soft sides or spaced apart for crispy edges.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Serve: Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with butter, jam, or honey!
