Cajun Shrimp Pasta with Sausage
Ingredients
For the Pasta:
- 8 ounces pasta (fettuccine, penne, or your choice)
- Salt, for pasta water
For the Shrimp and Sausage:
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined (large or jumbo)
- 8 ounces andouille sausage or smoked sausage, sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper (red, green, or yellow), diced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
Instructions
- Cook the Pasta:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare Shrimp and Sausage:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil.
- Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned and heated through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Season the shrimp with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook until pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the shrimp and sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Sauce:
- In the same skillet, add butter. Once melted, add diced onion and bell pepper. Sauté until soft, about 4-5 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Pour in the heavy cream and chicken broth, stirring to combine.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce (if using), and paprika. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it reduce slightly for about 5 minutes.
- Combine:
- Return the sausage and shrimp to the skillet. Stir until they are coated in the sauce and heated through.
- Toss in the cooked pasta, ensuring it is well mixed with the sauce. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve:
- Serve immediately, garnished with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
