Cajun Shrimp Pasta with Sausage

Ingredients

For the Pasta:

  • 8 ounces pasta (fettuccine, penne, or your choice)
  • Salt, for pasta water

For the Shrimp and Sausage:

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined (large or jumbo)
  • 8 ounces andouille sausage or smoked sausage, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper (red, green, or yellow), diced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta:
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  1. Prepare Shrimp and Sausage:
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil.
  • Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned and heated through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Season the shrimp with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook until pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the shrimp and sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  1. Make the Sauce:
  • In the same skillet, add butter. Once melted, add diced onion and bell pepper. Sauté until soft, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and chicken broth, stirring to combine.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce (if using), and paprika. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it reduce slightly for about 5 minutes.
  1. Combine:
  • Return the sausage and shrimp to the skillet. Stir until they are coated in the sauce and heated through.
  • Toss in the cooked pasta, ensuring it is well mixed with the sauce. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  1. Serve:
  • Serve immediately, garnished with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
