Southern Chocolate Cobbler

Ingredients

For the chocolate filling:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the cobbler topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Chocolate Filling:
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, melted butter, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  • Pour the chocolate mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  1. Make the Cobbler Topping:
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  • Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, stirring until just combined. The batter will be thick.
  1. Assemble the Cobbler:
  • Drop spoonfuls of the cobbler batter over the chocolate filling. It’s okay if some of the filling is exposed.
  • Do not try to spread the batter—just let it drop in spoonfuls.
  1. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is set and a toothpick inserted into the topping comes out clean.
  2. Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving. This dessert is delicious on its own but can also be served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.

Enjoy your Southern Chocolate Cobbler!
