Southern Chocolate Cobbler
Ingredients
For the chocolate filling:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the cobbler topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Chocolate Filling:
- In a medium bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, melted butter, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the chocolate mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Make the Cobbler Topping:
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, stirring until just combined. The batter will be thick.
- Assemble the Cobbler:
- Drop spoonfuls of the cobbler batter over the chocolate filling. It’s okay if some of the filling is exposed.
- Do not try to spread the batter—just let it drop in spoonfuls.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is set and a toothpick inserted into the topping comes out clean.
- Serve: Let it cool slightly before serving. This dessert is delicious on its own but can also be served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
Enjoy your Southern Chocolate Cobbler!
