Angel Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the yeast mixture:
  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water and instant yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it’s bubbly.
  1. Mix the dry ingredients:
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  1. Cut in the butter:
  • Add the softened butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry blender or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  1. Combine wet ingredients:
  • In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk with the yeast mixture, stirring to combine.
  1. Mix together:
  • Pour the buttermilk and yeast mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir just until combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
  1. Chill the dough:
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This helps the flavors meld and makes the dough easier to handle.
  1. Preheat the oven:
  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  1. Shape the biscuits:
  • On a floured surface, turn out the chilled dough. Roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a floured glass.
  1. Bake:
  • Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  1. Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. These biscuits are delightful when warm, and they can be served with butter, jam, or even alongside a meal.

Enjoy!
