Angel Biscuits Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup buttermilk, room temperature
- 1/2 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
Instructions:
- Prepare the yeast mixture:
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water and instant yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it’s bubbly.
- Mix the dry ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Cut in the butter:
- Add the softened butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry blender or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine wet ingredients:
- In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk with the yeast mixture, stirring to combine.
- Mix together:
- Pour the buttermilk and yeast mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir just until combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
- Chill the dough:
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This helps the flavors meld and makes the dough easier to handle.
- Preheat the oven:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Shape the biscuits:
- On a floured surface, turn out the chilled dough. Roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a floured glass.
- Bake:
- Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Serve:
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. These biscuits are delightful when warm, and they can be served with butter, jam, or even alongside a meal.
Enjoy!
