Apple Pie Bread Recipe

Ingredients

For the Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 2 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)

For the Topping:

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons cold butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Prepare the Batter:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream the Butter and Sugar:
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes with an electric mixer.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla:
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the sour cream (or yogurt). Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in Apples:
Gently fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  7. Prepare the Topping:
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon for the topping. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  8. Assemble the Bread:
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle the topping evenly over the batter.
  9. Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top starts to brown too quickly, you can loosely cover it with foil.
  10. Cool:
Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Serve:
Slice and enjoy! This bread is delicious on its own or served with butter.

Tips

  • You can add nuts or raisins for extra texture and flavor if you like.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
