Cheesy Texas Toast Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf of thick-cut sliced bread (Texas toast or any thick white bread)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (feel free to mix in mozzarella or Monterey Jack for added flavor)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Make Garlic Butter: In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
- Prepare the Bread: Place the slices of bread on a baking sheet. For extra crispiness, you can line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Spread the Mixture: Generously spread the cheesy garlic butter mixture on one side of each slice of bread.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the bread are golden brown.
- Broil (Optional): If you like your toast even crispier, you can switch to the broiler for the last 2-3 minutes. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
- Serve: Remove the Texas toast from the oven, let it cool slightly, then slice into halves or quarters if desired. Enjoy warm!
Tips:
- Variation: Feel free to add other spices or herbs, such as Italian seasoning, or even jalapeños for some extra kick!
- Cheese Options: Experiment with different cheeses like gouda, fontina, or a spicy pepper jack.
This cheesy Texas toast is perfect as a side dish for pasta, soups, or alongside a grilled cheese sandwich. Enjoy your delicious treat!
