Chewy Caramel Nut Fudge Bars
Ingredients
For the Base:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped nuts (like pecans or walnuts)
For the Caramel Layer:
- 1 cup caramel candies, unwrapped
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
For the Topping:
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Make the Base:
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract; mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped nuts.
- Bake the Base:
- Spread the dough evenly in the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden. Let cool for a few minutes.
- Prepare the Caramel Layer:
- In a small saucepan, combine the caramel candies and heavy cream over low heat. Stir until melted and smooth.
- Pour the caramel over the baked base, spreading evenly.
- Add the Topping:
- In another small saucepan, melt the chocolate chips and butter together over low heat until smooth. Pour this mixture over the caramel layer and spread it out gently.
- Chill and Cut:
- Allow the bars to cool at room temperature for a bit, then refrigerate them for at least 1 hour until set.
- Once set, cut into squares or bars.
