Easy Cream Puffs Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Choux Pastry:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Optional Topping:

  • Powdered sugar for dusting or chocolate glaze

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Choux Pastry:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the water and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the butter has melted, reduce the heat to low and add the flour and salt all at once. Stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.

2. Pipe the Dough:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Transfer the choux pastry dough to a piping bag fitted with a round tip (or you can use a ziplock bag with the corner snipped off).
  • Pipe small rounds (about 1.5 inches in diameter) onto the parchment paper, leaving space between each puff.

3. Bake the Pastry:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cream puffs are golden brown and puffed up.
  • Do not open the oven door while baking; it may cause the puffs to collapse.
  • Once baked, turn off the oven and let them cool in the oven with the door slightly ajar for 10 minutes.

4. Prepare the Filling:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  • Be careful not to overwhip the cream.

5. Fill the Cream Puffs:

  • Once the cream puffs are completely cool, cut a small slit in the side of each puff or cut the tops off to create a lid.
  • Fill each puff with the whipped cream using a piping bag or a spoon. If you prefer, you can use a pastry cream instead.

6. Serve:

  • Dust the filled cream puffs with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate glaze if desired.
  • Enjoy your delicious homemade cream puffs!

Tips:

  • You can prepare the choux pastry ahead of time and fill them just before serving for best results.
  • Experiment with different fillings like custard, ice cream, or fruit-flavored whipped cream!

Enjoy making and sharing these delightful cream puffs!
