Rotel Cream Cheese Sausage Balls
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground sausage (breakfast sausage works well)
- 1 (8 oz) block of cream cheese, softened
- 1 can (10 oz) Rotel tomatoes and green chilies, drained
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- 2 cups biscuit mix (like Bisquick)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray it with cooking spray.
- Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease and let it cool slightly.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage, softened cream cheese, drained Rotel, cheddar cheese, biscuit mix, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well combined. The mixture may be a bit sticky.
- Form Balls: Use your hands to form the mixture into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until the balls are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Let them cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
Tips:
- You can adjust the heat by choosing a spicier or milder can of Rotel, depending on your preference.
- These sausage balls can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking. Just freeze them raw, and when you’re ready to bake, add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
- Serve with dipping sauces like ranch dressing, salsa, or a creamy cheese dip for extra flavor.
