Yorkshire Puddings
Ingredients:
- 140 grams (1 cup) all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
- 200 milliliters (about ¾ cup + 1 tablespoon) milk
- Salt to taste
- Vegetable oil or beef drippings (for the baking tin)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Batter:
- In a mixing bowl, sift the flour and add a pinch of salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
- Gradually pour the egg and milk mixture into the flour, whisking continuously until the batter is smooth. Let it rest for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F).
- Prepare the Baking Tin:
- Add about 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil or beef drippings into each compartment of a muffin tin or a Yorkshire pudding tray.
- Place the tin in the hot oven for about 10 minutes until the oil is very hot and just smoking.
- Bake the Yorkshire Puddings:
- Carefully remove the hot tin from the oven. Quickly pour the rested batter into the compartments, filling them about halfway.
- Return the tin to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the Yorkshire puddings have risen and are golden brown. Avoid opening the oven door during the first 20 minutes, as this can cause them to collapse.
- Serve:
- Once cooked, remove the Yorkshire puddings from the oven and serve immediately, ideally alongside roast beef and gravy.
Tips:
- For extra flavor, you can use beef drippings instead of vegetable oil.
- Ensure your batter is mixed well and rested; this helps create the light, airy texture.
- If they don’t rise as expected, check that the oven temperature is accurate.
Enjoy your delicious homemade Yorkshire puddings!
